The authority promotes and develops trade by seeking to locate businesses in the county and also promotes the best use of the county’s agricultural, natural, and historical resources.

Dinwiddie Airport is administered by the Dinwiddie Airport and Industrial Authority, (DAIA). This authority is enabled by the Virginia General Assembly and is empowered to perform all actions necessary to operate the airfield.

The authority itself is made up by seven members. Four members are appointed from Dinwiddie County, one from Petersburg and two are at large. All are approved by the Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors.
