The Workforce Development Department is dedicated to cultivating a skilled and adaptable workforce to meet the needs of local industries.
Through comprehensive training programs, partnership with educational institutions and career services, this department empowers residents with the tools and opportunities to thrive in a competitive job market.
By fostering a strong link between employers and job seekers, this department assists in ensuring the long-term prosperity of the County.

All Dinwiddie County Schools are accredited. In the 2023 – 2024 school year, Dinwiddie County School System had 4,258 students enrolled.
For the 2023 – 2024 school year, Dinwiddie County High School had a 91.9% On-Time Graduation Rate and they had 261 CTE Completers and 101 students participating in Dual Enrollment.
Specialized Educational Programs Available to Dinwiddie County Students:
Appomattox Regional Governor’s School: Provides gifted and talented students a differentiated and rigorous education, cultivates a supportive environment that inspires unique artistic and technological visions, promotes cultural tolerance, nurtures community partnerships and produces active, engaged citizens. Appomattox Regional Governor’s Schools focus areas include: dance, literary arts, musical arts, technology, theatre arts and visual arts.
CodeRVA Regional High School: Focused on computer science, this school offers the opportunity to students to complete high school requirements through a combination of blended learning, integrated coursework and project-based learning. CodeRVA students will be provided the opportunity to graduate with a high school diploma, an Associate Degress from the Virginia Community College System, industry certifications and as many as 360 hours or more of practical information technology work experience.
Dual Enrollment: Dinwiddie County High School partners with Richard Bland College and Brightpoint Community College to offer students the ability to earn college credits while in high school.
Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School: An innovative public high school offering a comprehensive college preparatory program emphasizing government, international studies, science, mathematics, languages and fine arts. In 2023, Maggie Walker was ranked #8 in Best Public High Schools in the US by Niche.
Rowanty Techical Center: The mission of Rowanty Technical Center is to provide quality career and technical education programs to assist each student enrolled from Dinwiddie, Prince George, and Sussex County Public Schools to achieve their potential in career and technical occupations. Available programs include: Automotive Body Technology, Automotive Technology, Carpentry, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Electricity, Masonry, Nurse Aide and Welding.

Annual Dinwiddie Teen Expo
April
Save the Date for the 10th Annual Teen Expo: April 12, 2025! More information will be available soon.
Dinwiddie Middle and High School students engage with event lecturers and exhibitors on wellness and professional development topics, including discussions on healthy living, making good choices, and what steps to follow in preparation for higher education and their career of choice. Teen attendees have the first opportunity to meet with potential employers exhibiting on-site, apply for summer jobs, and initiate the process for participating in the Summer Work-Based Learning Program. The event culminates with a two-hour outdoor funfest that includes prize giveaways, gaming stations, and other fun outdoor activities.
Government Day
Dinwiddie High School’s senior government classes join the Board of Supervisors and County administration staff for a day of hands-on experiences, including the reenactment of a typical board meeting or budget workshop. Through this fun and engaging forum, students experience how regulatory decisions are made on a local level. Experience gained from this exercise is integrated into the classroom curriculum.
Summer Work-Based Learning Program
June-July
Dinwiddie Students have an opportunity to work for up to eight (8) weeks within an environment that provides quality employment and exposure to professional development training. Students will gain real-world experience and skill-sets to assist in preparation for career development and resume building. Many students have received part-time jobs as result of this unique opportunity! Open to youth ages 14-19 currently enrolled in grades 8-12 at a DCPS school or affiliate. Students must be in good academic standing to qualify for this program. (Stipend funded, the amount may vary).
Dinwiddie Emerging Leaders Academy (DELA)

The Dinwiddie Emerging Leaders Academy is a new program that focuses on enhancing the skills and knowledge of twelve (12) high school juniors and seniors in the areas of leadership, community and civic engagement and government through exposure, information, opportunities and insight. Each student who completes the program receives a stipend.
The mission of this program is: to build a LEGACY by providing students with skills, trainings and experiences that will enhance their mindset by participating in activities that are focused on: Leadership, Engagement, Government, Advancement, Community and Youth Involvement.
